Star Trek Original Series vs. Reboot Movies: Relative Ages of Actors

In Arts & Entertainment on 16 January 2014 at 2:16 pm

From the In-Case-You-Were-Wondering department:

While watching the two latest Star Trek travesties movies, I couldn’t help but notice how ridiculously young the characters look, compared to their Original Series counterparts. I thought it would be interesting to compare the relative ages of the actors at the start of the series and at the premier of the first alternate-timeline movie. According to the Memory Alpha article on Stardates, the first alternate-timeline movie is set seven years prior to the setting of the first episode of The Original Series. In the table below, I’ve presented the actual difference in the ages of the actors and then the difference adjusted by that seven year difference.

Character TOS Actor Age Alternate-Timeline Actor Age Actual Difference Adjusted Difference
Kirk Shatner 35 Pine 29 -6 +1
Spock Nimoy 35 Quinto 32 -3 +4
McCoy Kelley 46 Urban 37 -9 -2
Uhura Nichols 34 Saldana 31 -3 +4
Sulu Takei 29 Cho 37 +8 +15
Checkov Koenig 30 Yelchin 20 -10 -3
Scott Doohan 46 Pegg 39 -7 0

Please feel free to draw your own conclusions.
